Weather conditions are often an important factor in many types of losses. When considering a friction factor we may need to know when it last rained. Snow, rain and temperature are important factors in slip and fall accidents. For a long time we have used Environment Canada's Historical Weather Data. The difficulty is in finding the nearby and surrounding weather stations and knowing exactly where they are in relation to the accident scene. We have used data from the Environment Canada website to plot the location of each weather station operation in Ontario since 2000 in Google Earth.

If you are a Google Earth user, you are welcome to download our collection of 389 Ontario weather station placemarks. In addition to the locations of the weather stations you can click on each placemark to select a link to search for the historical data. You will be asked for a date. The date and station name is passed to Environment Canada's website and the data is presented by their website.

Notes:
- Stations have different levels of data. Some report hourly, some only daily.
- Some stations are no longer operating. If your occurrence is recent, the station may not be helpful.
- This data should only be used for general information. Your case may require analysis by a forensic climatologist.
- Please refer to Environment Canada for support concerning the weather data.
- Please refer to Google Earth for support in working with their product.
- Please let us know if any placemark does not work or if it seems to be mislocated.
- When you first load the downloaded .kmz file it will be placed in the "Temporary Places" folder. When you exit Google Earth the program will ask if you would like to move it to your "My Places" folder. If you do, the weather stations will be available next time you run Google Earth.
